About

94teenphotographer asked: When you are out on the street and you are planning to take a picture of a group of people, do you ask them before you take the photo, or do you keep your distance and then take it?

I never ask, because as soon as people know that they are about to be photographed, they start to behave differently (pose, smile etc.) and I wouldn’t get the photos I want. I try to capture my subjects “in the moment”, so I also avoid eye contact most of the time. Still, I try to get as close as possible. However, the distance depends on the subject and if I can find the courage (this changes from day to day).
